Information about Our Program
Independent Study is available for your student if you believe their health would be put at-risk by attending in-person instruction.
If you are interested in enrolling your student in the Yuba City Unified Independent Study program, please fill out the registration form by clicking on this link. If you would like to request a parent/student conference meeting before enrolling in YCIA, please contact Assistant Superintendent Pam Aurangzeb at (530) 822-7611. If you enroll in YCIA and determine that you would like to return to your student’s school of residence, the District will re-enroll your student for full in-person instruction within five (5) days of your completion of the Request to Return form.
Students enrolled in YCIA will receive instruction through both live and synchronous instruction depending on the grade level of the student.
Live Instruction is defined as interaction between the student and teacher/paraprofessional and may include other students. The interaction may take place in person or in the form of internet/telephonic communication.
Synchronous instruction is defined as classroom-style instruction, small group, or one-on-one instruction delivered in person, or in the form of internet/telephonic communications and involving live, two-way communication between the teacher and student. Synchronous instruction shall be provided by the teacher of record for that student.
Parent/Guardians and students can expect a minimum of the following instruction for their student(s) enrolled in Yuba City Independence Academy:
Grades K-3: daily synchronous instruction for all students throughout the school year.
Grades 4-8: both daily live interaction and at least weekly synchronous instruction for all students throughout the school year.
Grades 9-12: at least weekly synchronous instruction for all students throughout the school year.
